World Hypnotism DayJanuary 4th is World Hypnotism Day. To recognize this day Dolores Merrell of Advanced Hypnosis Services in Skippack is presenting a free lecture to educate the public about the myths and misconceptions that surround hypnosis.
Have you ever had a relaxing massage? Well, hypnosis is like having a mental message. Imagine being in your favorite place in nature, a soothing, relaxing place where you can make positive changes.
However, some people think that hypnosis is strange and mysterious. Their only exposure to hypnosis may be from movies or county fairs. Hype and hocus-pocus aside, hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation and focus where you bypass the conscious mind to initiate positive change.
Actually, you may already be in trance many times during the day. Have you ever driven home from work and were so involved in thinking about something that you forgot how you got home? Or have you ever become so involved in a movie that you felt that you were there? Do you daydream?
These are all examples of trance.
Anyone of at least average intelligence can be hypnotized. That is, if they want to be. During hypnosis, you do not lose control. If fact, you are more empowered. You always have the ability to accept or reject any suggestions that are given to you. You will feel that you are in a contented space with your eyes closed.
There are no negative side effects of hypnosis. Instead, it can work to help you eliminate a bad habit and replace it with one that serves your well-being. It is truly a life-changing opportunity. It is an effective way to make those New Year’s resolutions permanent.
The American Medical Association has endorsed hypnosis as an effective treatment in 1958. Merrell has successfully treated individuals with hypnosis for smoking cessation, weight management and behavior modification. In addition, hypnosis is also used for childbirth, elimination of fears, and sports enhancement. Recently, The National Institute of Health recommended hypnosis for pain management and sleep problems.
To learn more about the benefits of hypnosis you are invited to attend a free lecture, “Hypnosis: Myths and Frequently Asked Questions,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, upstairs at the Dreamcatcher, 4049 Skippack Pike, Skippack. Presenting the lecture will be Dolores Merrell, MA, MBA, CHT, of Advanced Hypnosis Services in Skippack. She can be reached at 215.679.7560. You may also visit www.advancedhypnosisservices.com. |
